Passing your theory test is an exhilarating experience, but what happens if you don’t pass the first time?  Nerves do get the better of some people and it is not unusual to have to sit your test more than once.  In fact over 30% of people need to sit their test on more than one occasion.

In one particular case a gentleman from London has sat his test 107 times and is still yet to pass.  At a cost of £31 each time he has managed to spend over £3,317 on attempting to pass his test.  But he can’t be faulted on his perseverance!

The theory test consists of two parts.  The first part is a 57 minute multiple choice test which requires 43 out of 50 questions to be answered correctly.  The second part of the examination is a hazard perception test, which requires 44 out of 75 questions to be answered correctly.  The purpose of the theory test is to ensure new drivers are aware of the requirements of the Highway Code and are aware of what to do in different driving conditions.  The hope is the theory test will ensure that drivers have the knowledge to drive safely and carefully no matter what situation they may find themselves in on the roads.
